Moulvibazar, Bangladesh | July 1, 2026

Police in Moulvibazar have uncovered the mystery behind a sensational and clue-less murder case, arresting five individuals, including the victim’s brother, who allegedly masterminded the abduction and killing over a long-standing land dispute.

The arrested individuals are the victim’s brothers, Abdul Majid (50), Abdul Azid (43), and Abdul Ruf (56), his sister Ayesha Akter Ratna (37), and Tuli Begum (40), the wife of Abdul Majid.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim, Abdul Matin (58), had been involved in a prolonged land-related dispute and multiple legal battles with his siblings. Police said Abdul Majid had allegedly planned the murder and hired individuals to execute the crime.

Investigators found that Abdul Majid was aware in advance that Abdul Matin was scheduled to appear in court as a witness on June 28, 2026. The alleged perpetrators used this opportunity to carry out their plan.

According to police, at around 9:30 am on the day of the incident, Abdul Matin left his home for the Moulvibazar court to testify in a case. Members of the planned team reportedly followed him and, at an isolated location, forcibly abducted him in a vehicle. They allegedly tied his hands and legs, murdered him, and later dumped his body on a paved road near the southern bank of Sundar Mia’s pond before fleeing.

When Abdul Matin did not return home in the evening, his wife, Laki Akter Shefa, tried to contact him by phone but found it switched off. While searching for her husband, she received information that a body with tied hands and legs and a shirt wrapped around the neck had been found on a road embankment near their residence.

She rushed to the scene and identified the deceased as her husband. Police said there were multiple injury marks on his head and different parts of his body.

Upon receiving the information, officers from Moulvibazar Sadar Model Police Station arrived at the scene at around 11:40 pm, recovered the body, and prepared an inquest report. The incident created widespread concern and outrage in the area.

Following directives from Superintendent of Police Mohammad Monirul Islam, a special investigation team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Nobel Chakma, Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Abul Khayer, and Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam launched an intensive investigation.

Based on evidence gathered during the investigation, police conducted raids in different areas of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila and arrested the five accused on June 30, 2026, before producing them before the court.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Saiful Islam said a murder case has been filed in connection with the incident. He added that although five people, including the alleged mastermind, have been arrested, police operations are continuing to apprehend other suspects involved in the murder.
